GMShan

GameMaster

DomoBrasil:

Hello GMShan, and thank you for taking this interview. How did you discover DOMO?

GMShan:

Looking back, I can only laugh. A friend told me about DOMO and he never plays MMO's, but I figured why not? So, almost by accident, I checked it out. In the end, everything worked out great and I am glad to be with DOMO now.

DomoBrasil:

Well what about the person behind the GM char, anything you would like to tell us about yourself?

GMShan:

I suppose my life is a bit epochal at times. My hobbies are in communication, writing, language, and the snow. First, I love chatting to people online and offline for long debates about their problems, solutions, and the weather. Secondly, I write short stories based on my dreams or ideologies and share what I can with the world. Thirdly, I am studying Korean now but my only real intention is to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and hopefully, play a Korean 'MMO' or two. Finally, I have an itch for skiing and you will find me going up and down a mountain at the end of each year. I am multifaceted to say the least.

DomoBrasil:

yes, right: you are a writer. Could you share your stories with us?

GMShan:

I can talk about my website if you like.  Well to start, and I wont make a big story out of it.

I have always been a bit of a storyteller, which is probably why I like mmoRPG's so much.

I started up a blog website in the past but it had no direction so i dumped it. I continued to write a story every so often influenced by a dream, an event in my life, or a theory I had come up with over the years. I would write it down and leave it hidden in my room or somewhere on my hard drive.  but last year my hard drive crashed  and all my other old paper work was gone

DomoBrasil: Oh no… That’s why I keep all my files on dvd or cd.
GMShan:

smart of you! it hurt to lose all my writings but i still had them up in my head and plenty more to come. I have an itch I have to scratch, i love to write and tell stories to people. end of last year I wrote a huge 10 page theory paper. a big story on a huge theory I had on life  but for some reason this time I did not want to lose this story so i decided to start blogging. I knew I would have more things to write about as time went on, things to share or say. since the beginning of this year I have been blogging almost every month, but most of it is for show. I still keep my main stories and random ideas to myself or friends. so this website, this blog, is full of me working on my writing. to answer your question, I still have no real direction or intention except to interpret and communicate the things i notice. My stories are usually silly and comedic and highly fantasy based. I try to add some philosophy in the mix for a lesson learned at the end

DomoBrasil:

And where we can read your stories?

GMShan:

well I have 3 categories on my website. the "stories" are here:

http://www.ninthlobby.com/search/label/Story Time

The link is for Story Time. my other "Quite Random" is more of blogs like what I am doing today or yesterday, Rants and Raves is my attempt to push articles out, a mimic of other websites i suppose. it was fun to do both of those, but my main goal is the Stories.  90% of my website has nothing to do with games or mmorpg's  but i still share it with people.

DomoBrasil: Can we see the other categories?
GMShan:

your free to see anything on my website. all links are located on the right hand side of  http://ninthlobby.com . I have nothing to hide

DomoBrasil:

xD great! How long have you been a gamemaster?

GMShan: At least 2-3 years now.
DomoBrasil: What about your first day as a gamemaster, how was it? Exciting, scary?
GMShan: My memories are good. For DOMO, I know I was really nervous, but GM Erock and GM Tankgirl quickly got me used to everything. On the other hand, getting used to my precious Game Sages and the player community was another hurdle. Every day is a learning experience.

DomoBrasil:

Could you tell us about the ingame events on DOMO? How to participate, what is the prize, how it works (each one)?

GMShan:

Participating in our events is quite simple since anyone can join, they just need to be online at the time. To check out event rules and the schedule just visit domo.aeriagame.com and look under 'Announcements' or 'Events' for more information. OK, let me tell you about two events I run:

First, GM Hunting, which is an event I mixed with a older ideas. I believe a few GMs before me tried something similar, but at the time we mainly did Hide and Seek. I had to spice it up so GM Hunting was born. This is where a GM disguises himself as a monster and gives clues to the players to hunt him down for a prize. Prizes here are usually a timed costume along with transform pills and a few useful items that will help your hunting capabilities (scapegoat, hp booster, etc.).

I was already running Hide and Seek so coming up with my own event was no problem. We usually have plenty of freedom with events. Usually the week or day before we brainstorm on the prizes and how we want to run it for the players. This includes things like location and the duration of a challenge or round. There is of course improvisation along the way, but that's what I love about our events, full control to appease the community, and of course have fun.

Finally, there is Hidden Shop and this event I run with GM Erock. Now we usually get a handful of Game Sages and begin by giving each of them a preselected prize. After that they all run out and hide somewhere on a map and wait for the event to begin. Last, but not least, we announce the event in-game and then each Game Sage opens up a stall selling a prize for 1 gold. That is basically it, aside from waiting for players to find us I always give out clues as the event progresses. We push fresh items with the players like the experience badges or recently released costumes, but we like to be spontaneous.

We try to keep events fresh as much as possible by listening to player feedback constantly on the forums and in-game. The goal for an event is to make sure players enjoy themselves

DomoBrasil:

Another of our traditions are "fast questions". Are you willing to answer them? Ready?
